Rich Girl

Anyone else love the song Rich Girl by Hall and Oates?  "You can rely on your old man's money . . . money, money won't get you too far, get you too faaaaaar. . ." (It's totally stuck in my head :)

Yep, I'm talking about money AGAIN. Why? Because how we treat money reflects how we believe it "treats" us. During Health Coach Institute's Evolve Summit, the incredible Coach Bill Barron shared that people usually exemplify 4 money archetypes:

My gorgeous glamorous sister is a PRO at saving :)

Because how we treat money reflects how we believe it "treats" us.
  • Makers (Decisions hinge on making money)

  • Savers (Forego experiences in order to save money)

  • Spenders (Avoid feelings around money by spending it)

  • Avoiders (Anxiety leads to keeping themselves clueless)

Each archetype has significant strengths and weaknesses. Which archetype(s) are you?

Perhaps experiences taught you that there is never enough of  it, too much causes greed, it is only gained through difficult work, it should be kept secret etc. The goal behind many of these beliefs is to provide a great life for your family and to give greatly. This is a great goal! We just need to upgrade the beliefs that reflect this goal.

How can I upgrade my beliefs around money? Have the courage to ask what-if questions: What if money was like love? What if there is  enough of it in this world for everyone to live the life they've dreamed of? What if money is like a magnifying glass? When you get more of it, you're just more of who you are? (If you're a greedy person, now you're just a greedy person with money. If you're a giving person, now you're a giving person with money.) What if earning money was about working smart? What if transparency helped you gain respect, model money management and have edifying conversations?

What if there is  enough of it in this world for everyone to live the life they've dreamed of?

Treating money in a way that aligns with your values is far beyond where most people are and upgrading beliefs around money is the best place to start. (Check out this post for practical tips on making, saving and spending money.)
